top computer virus list

These are the ways to make a computer faster ?

this is the list that i know (its coming from the top of my head)

*Scanning for viruses and desinfecting (by entering through safe mode)
*Cleaning out all the junk and cookies and uncesseray files stored in my computer and cleaning out the registry (by using Ccleaner)
*Defragmenting
*By uninstalling unessary programs that i do NOT use or do not need (by going to add/remove programs)
*Then going to the “Run” application and typing in msconfig, then going to start up and uncheck all programs that i do not need to run

Thats all i know on how to make my computer faster
AND, if my compter keeps up slow, then i might have to consider upgrading the RAM

what do you think of my method?
did i miss anything ?

Sounds pretty good to me

course instead of spending money on Ccleaner just delete them thru the internet options

start>control panel> internet options > delete cookies and files

that will do the same exact thing…and you have already paid Bill Gates to use it.

hdd info tool

Goes overwriting wear out your HDD?

I normally overwrite my freespace 35 times with a disk cleaner tool. Does writing this info ove rand over and over wear out your hard drive quicker than normal unsecure file deletion. I have a 5400 IDE and a 7200 SATA drive that I clean daily.

why are you overwriting you free space 35 time daily the only time you really need to overwrite a hd is if you get rid of it and yes you could shorten the life of the hd because the motor on the hd is being use more.

basic computer maintenance hard drive

Does nobody in the 24th century world of Star Trek back up their computer hard drives?

Almost every night on Star Trek Voyager, the EMH (holographic doctor) will suffer some catastrophic failure in his subroutines.
We then hear everyone saying that if they can’t stop the degradation in his programme, he’ll be lost forever.

Why doesn’t someone just get out the installation CDRom that he came supplied with, and re-install him?

Or even more sensible, why doesn’t someone make a backup of his programme?
I can’t believe the Starfleet IT department would have overlooked such a basic principle of computer system maintenance.

Do you think the Starfleet IT department are as feckless, lazy and workshy as most present day IT departments?
Maybe that’s why you never see anyone from the starships IT departments.
No-one can find them.
Can you imagine calling up the help-desk to report a problem with the life-support computers, only to be told by some disinterested geek that you have to *turn it off then back on again*…

I guess they are as lazy as people in the 21st century. heh. I have never liked the thought of a computer animated doctor, what if something went wrong (as you mentioned) with it and it gave the wrong diagnoses and treatment? Give me good ol country doctor Doctor McCoy or Doctor Crusher anyday.
