Use my old hard drive in an external enclosure?

This is for all the experts in car there, I know there are similar problems there, but I can not find the correct answer. Basically, I'm rebuilding my computer, and make me a new SATA hard disk to replace the old IDE drive. What I ask is that I can I take my old IDE drive (no formatting) and put it into a USB 2.0 port, and always have a handy device to work as an external drive to transfer data to disk new.
