laptop graphics cards prices

Are external graphics cards worth the money?
My laptop is an HP Pavilion Entertainment notebook that is barely 2 years old. I have an NVIDIA GeForce 7150m/nForce630m. I am playing World of Warcraft and in order to run without lagg I must use the lowest graphics. If i get an external graphics card will i be able to play with higher graphics? If so, which one would be the best to get for a decent price. Please post with your experiences if you have some.
There are external cards but they run SLOWER than your built-in ones. They are ONLY good for presentations and such.
